Monday, September 9th.  “Fruits”

I love fruits more than anything. My favorite fruits are pears, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mangoes, cherries. Those are my favorites, but I love all fruits. Unfortunately, fruits are expensive, so I only get a chance to eat them only sometimes. I wish I could eat them every day. Recently, I found a snack called そのまんまゆず。I guess, in English, it would be Yusu, just as it is.

It says, on the package, it has no chemicals. I tried it, and it was excellent. Another bad thing about fruits is that they are hard to eat. You can eat this Yuzu like a snack. I found it at a convenience store. Check it out.

Thursday, September 12th.   “Alpha”

Although I make my materials to teach my classes, I’m always looking for quality teaching materials.  I respect people who produce things because I know how hard it is to do that.  

Anyway, I recently found material that was good for my level 3 students.  It’s a newspaper called Alpha created by Japan Times.  This newspaper is made for English students.  The news is simplified and easy to understand.  

I used to subscribe to other newspapers that were for English students but this is the best one among them.  If you are thinking of improving your business English skills, I highly recommend it.  

By the way, I’m planning a business course in November at Masters.  I’ll let you know the details once I know for sure.

Sunday, September 15th   “Japanese Events”

I was not raised in Japan so I did not really know all the events of Japan.  I’ve lived in Japan for 18 years now so I come to recognize most of the events.  What’s difficult is to explain that in English. 

For example, how would you say 秋分の日?

It’s called the Autumn Equinox.

During September you also have a moon-viewing party.  (月見)

Have you done it?  

Come to think of it, there are so many events in Japan.  Almost every month, there’s some kind of cultural event.  It really keeps you busy. 

I found a good site that explains all the cultural events in English.
