月や年の「初め、真ん中、終わり」を英語で表現

　皆さんは、月初や月末を英語で表現するときにどのようなフレーズを使っていますか？何か出来事を説明するときに、具体的な日付ではなく「今月の初めに」などと表現する機会は日本語でも多いと思います。今回は、beginning of, middle of, end ofを使った大まかな時制を表現する方法を紹介していきます！

beginning ofの使い方

　beginning ofは「〜の初め」という意味でよく使われるフレーズです。ofの後に月や年などを加えて使うことができます。

例）

I went back to my hometown in the beginning of this month.

和訳：今月の初めに実家に帰った。

I have to submit a report in the beginning of next year.

和訳：来年の初めにレポートを提出しなければならない。

middle ofの使い方

　middle ofは「〜の真ん中」という意味で使われるフレーズです。月や年といった時制だけでなく、場所を伝える際にも使うことができます。

例)

I’m going to take TOEIC in the middle of next month.

和訳：来月の中旬にTOEICを受けるつもりです。

He is waiting in the middle of the cafeteria.

和訳：彼は食堂の真ん中で待っている。

　また、middle ofはsomethingと組み合わせてよく使われます。I’m in the middle of somethingは「今取り込み中」などを表現できるフレーズで忙しいときに電話がかかってきた際などによく使われます。

I’m in the middle of something. Call me back later.

和訳：今取り込み中だからまた後でかけ直して。

end ofの使い方

　end ofは「〜の終わり」という意味でよく使われるフレーズです。

例）

I must meet the quota until the end of this month.

和訳：月末までにノルマを達成しなければならない。

She’s supposed to get married in the end of next February.

和訳：彼女は次の2月に結婚することになっている。

各フレーズの意味を正しく理解して「取り外す」を表現しよう！

Thursday, October 10th “This year”

The end of the year is approaching.  Wow, time really flies!  This year went by so fast.  I can’t believe it.  The year is not over yet!  There are still a few things I need to get done.  

One is the start of a new business course with Ben Pwee.  It’s called Bizlish.   We really want to offer a good curriculum that’s different from what the other schools are offering.  Actually, there are already enough people signed up for it.  I was glad students were interested in it. 

Second is the start of my tie-up with Webster university to send students to the campus in Thailand.  This is also a very exciting project.  I’m trying to build up the homepage for it.  

Actually, Master English was started about 2 years ago.  Now, I’m getting more and more students who are interested.  I’m glad my effort paid off.  Believe it or not, my first project Willton English academy is almost 8 years old!  

I think I’m lucky that I have a job that I love.  I’ll keep trying as long as I live!
