[similar to] [the same as] [different from]

この3つのフレーズはセットで覚えましょう。

similar, the same, different は形容詞として用います。

言葉の後ろに付いている前置詞を一緒に覚えましょう。

[similar ＋ to]

 [*the same ＋ as] 

[different ＋ from] です。

*sameの前にtheを忘れないようにしましょう。

similar to は「似ている」、the same asは「同じ」、different from は「異なる」です。

My bag is similar to yours.  

(私のカバンはあなたのと似ている。)

I’m the same age as you.

(私はあなたと同じ歳です。)

Your way is different from my way.

(あなたのやり方は私のやり方と違う。)

similar to と like

Similar to と likeは両方とも「似ている」という意味です。

like そのものが前置詞です。

My bag is like yours.

(私のカバンはあなたのカバンのようだ。)

副詞を付けて強調

Similar to, the same as, different from の前に副詞を置くことによってより意味を強調できます。

similar の場合、reallyがよく付きます。

the same as は exactly、

different from は totallyが付きます。

My bag is really similar to yours.

(私のカバンはあなたのとすごく似ている。)

I’m exactly the same age as you.

(私はあなたと全く同じ歳です。)

You way is totally different from my way.

(あなたのやり方は私のやり方と全然違う。)
