Sunday, February 17th.  “NHK Short Stories”

In some of my classes, we read the NHK short stories.  There are 18 short stories.  Some students have read all of it.  I think it’s the best English book for my students.  If you have not read it, I highly recommend you study this book.  There are many good stories but the funniest one was “Last beginning”.  It’s about a mother who is too enthusiastic about attending her son’s school ceremonies.  She always ends up doing something embarrassing.  It’s so funny.  I can’t help laughing at this story.  

If you have finished reading this book, it’s time to try another short story book.  I’m sure your listening skill has gotten better from the first one.  The next one has an orange cover.  I think the stories are just as interesting as the first one.  I can’t wait to read it with students!

Wednesday, February 20th.  “My sister’s vacation”

Guess where my sister went on vacation? She came back from a trip to Spain with her husband.  She told me she really had a good time.  One thing she really enjoyed was the food.  It just blew her away how good it was!! She went to a place called Lugo and La Coruna   They are both not touristy areas but the scenery is amazing and what’s more, the restaurants are outstanding.  She went to many Michelin-starred restaurants and guess what, the price was around 300 Euros (3000 yen).  Can you believe it?!  My sister and I talked over the phone for about an hour and it made me want to go there with my students.  Check out the pictures and tell me what you think in class!!

Friday, February 22nd “Ikinari Steak”

I’ve heard a lot about Ikinari steak from my students.  I had always wanted to go there. I didn’t have a chance until last Friday.  One of my students told me Ikinari steak would open underground in Central Park.  I jumped up in joy when I heard that.  The opening day was February 22nd.  I decided to go on that day.  I knew it would be crowded for lunch and dinner so I chose to go at 3:00 pm.  Despite the strange time to have steak, the place was full.  I was surprised a lot of ladies there.  I was expecting to see mostly guys.  I had a 300-gram steak.  I kind of regretted it later because I felt a bit sick near the end.  The steak was pretty good though.  I know I’ll be going back there in the near future.  You gotta check it out!
