Monday, July 22nd. “Summer is here”

In Japan, there’s a tradition of eating a certain kind of food for each season. For me, my favorite food in summer is ice-cream and watermelon. Wait, I lied. It’s eel, but it’s too expensive to eat it, so I have taken it off my favorite food list. Anyway, I used to eat only one scoop of ice cream, but these days I can eat three scoops!! During the weekdays, I try not to eat unhealthy food, but on the weekend I go for junk food.

You can’t always eat healthy food. It’s no fun. At the same time, you can’t always eat junk food. It will kill you. The important thing is to find a balance.

Wednesday, July 24th. “Summer heat.”

Today, I finally felt the true heat of Nagoya summer. It’s really muggy!! So far, I’ve slept with the air-con off. It’s pretty amazing to be sleeping with no air-con on in the middle of July.

Believe it or not, I came to Japan in June of 2001! That’s such a long time ago come to think of it. When I first came to Japan, I couldn’t stand the heat. But now, it doesn’t bother me. I guess you can say I got used to it.

Initially, I was planning to go to Thai this summer. I wanted to take some students for the summer MBA program. I’m still not completely sure but most likely it will be postponed. If so, I have no plans for summer. Well, that’s not true. I have millions of other things I have to do so I guess I’ll be working on that. It will be one busy summer! 😅😃

Sunday, July 28th “Okonomiyaki”

One of my students’ son started an Okonomiyaki store. She has been really busy helping out the store and also coming to Willton. She often brings me Okonomiyaki from her store. Let me tell you it’s really amazing. They are experimenting with different types of Okonomiyaki. For example, there were rice cakes (餅) in it last time. This time it had Japanese Corriander in it. It gave the Okonomiyaki a unique taste. It was really delicious. I highly recommend you check it out.
