Thursday, January 9th.  “Kyoto”

I decided to visit Kyoto beginning of 2020.  My sister lives there now, but she will be going back to America this summer.  I thought it would be a good idea to visit her while she and her family are still there.  

Kyoto was colder than Nagoya.  I arrived in Kyoto and had lunch with my sister’s family.  After that, I visited Shimogamo shrine.  I heard it’s one of the top 3 shrines to visit for New Year’s prayer.  My sister lives 10 minutes on foot from that shrine so it was easy to get there.  

The next day, I visited the Kitano Tenmangu.  As you know, this shrine is famous for “God of learning and knowledge”. Since I run a school, I thought it was a good place to go. 

After that, I visited Sanjyusangen-do.  This temple is famous for the 1000 Buddha statues.  It was an amazing sight.  I was glad I got to visit 3 divine places at the beginning of the year.  I think Kyoto blessed me with good luck so I’m ready to face 2020.

日記の訳

2020年の頭に京都に訪れることを決めました。現在、妹が住んでいます。しかし、彼女と彼女の家族は今年の夏にアメリカに戻ります。まだ彼女達が京都にいる間、行っておいた方がいいと思いました。

京都は名古屋より寒かったです。京都に着いて妹達とランチをしました。そのあと下鴨神社に行きました。下鴨神社は日本で初詣として訪れる神社の中のトップ３と聞いています。妹はその神社の徒歩10分先に住んでいるので簡単に行けました。

次の日、北野天満宮に行きました。ご存知のようにこの神社は学問の神社として有名です。私は学校を運営しているので、行くのにいい場所だと思いました。そのあと三十三間堂に行きました。ここには1000体の菩薩で有名です。素晴らしい場所でした。年の初めに３つのパワースポットに行けてよかったです。京都から幸運をいただいたので2020年と向き合う準備ができました。
